hi! if you’re getting this newsletter & you’re confused about it, you’re probably part of the big import i just did from patreon and my website (oops, i hadn’t done an import in ages!). feel free to unsubscribe!

happy spooky season! the world is, um, bad! but there’s spooky movies?
spooky movie corner
what movies have you watched for spooky month?? here’s the top of my list:
ready or not - great dark comedy, fantastic gore, great comedic timing. the tone reminds me of cabin in the woods (another fav) and the attitude towards rich people is reminiscent of the menu. i’ve watched it twice, and would watch again!
practical magic - i’ve loved this movie since i was a kid. kind of a spooky romcom? excellent comfort movie.
jennifer’s body - i really warmed to this one over time. adam brody delivering the line, “do you know how hard it is to make it as an indie band these days? satan is our only hope.” always makes me cackle. that whole scene makes the movie worth watching imo lol.
adam brody wearing eyeliner captioned, “satan is our only hope.”
little free zine library
a colorful little free library filled with zines.
the big news it, it’s up! the little free zine library is finally up! it’s been a long time in the making and i’m really excited. feel free to send me zine PDFs to print for it, i’m also down for trades! get in touch :)
terror pigeon!!!
flyer featuring line art doodles of various cute animals
hi please come to this show i booked if you’re local!!!! i never book shows but terror pigeon is the most fun live show i’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing, and i wasn’t about to let them pass over olympia on tour. sometimes they have that parachute thing we did in elementary school where you fill it with air and then all run under it. one time they brought a tent and we erected it as a crowd and then fit as many people inside as we could while neil serenaded us. DIY needs more bands like this! all of the bands on this bill rule!
save the date: sunday, november 10th at the mortuary (next to wicked pies downtown). All ages, 7pm, $10 no one turned away for lack of funds, masks required and provided. no jerks, no punk time! hella air purifiers present.
rip second home
i haven’t said anything publicly about this yet, but second home is no more. we got to the point where we were ready to do a big fundraising push, but after some serious checking in, we decided it was best to throw in the towel before we took anyone’s money. we still need to set a debrief meeting and decide where our remaining funds are going. i did some serious grieving over it, but i’m ultimately relieved to have a big chunk of my time back to dedicate to other community projects. i love DIY music. it raised me, it’s where i felt i belonged for so long. but it looks a lot different these days (or maybe i’m different), and that’s a grief i’ve barely started to address lol. renew my faith in DIY at the terror pigeon show pls.
new community event space
now for some good news- i’ve been getting involved with a new community space in town called DECAY. i co-hosted their first open draw (every tuesday, 2-6pm, free). nobody came, but it was nice to hang with my co-host amelia and talk about art and zines and the possibilities this new space presents. it’s ADA accessible, which fucking rules. i’m hoping i can nudge things in a direction that is more actively inclusive of disabled and covid-cautious folks. i’m expecting some push-back, but i’m hopeful!
i’m planning to co-host open draw for the foreseeable future. it’s not masks required, but my co-host and i both mask, masks will always be available, and the air purifier will be running.
mask bloc
as if i needed more things to do, i recently started volunteering with oly mask block! we’re trying to distro masks every friday from 1-3, check the instagram for the location.
some songs
i, like many other queers, am madly in love with adrianne lenker. the chorus of this song has lived rent free in my head all month:
here’s a wildly different vibe, i recently rewatched hedwig and the angry inch, so:
