🟒 greetings 🟒
i’ve been trying to write this thing for a week now. maybe longer!
i’ve been really goin’ through it lately, and i haven’t been fulfilling my usual self-made commitments. i am taking tiny sips of coffee that i abandoned earlier in the day. it’s 4:50pm. sipping this coffee is highly inadvisable, but sometimes that’s fine?
screen grabs from the cartoon rugrats: stu is in the kitchen stirring a pot on the stove, his wife asks, “it’s four o’clock in the morning, why on earth are you making chocolate pudding?” he replies, “because i’ve lost control of my life.”
the lil nip of chill in the air is nice, and i’ve had some really good days lately, but it’s been hard to muster the energy to do much outside of the basics (feed self, hygiene, work deadlines, etc). i suspect the state of the world has something to do with it. so much free-floating grief. how many disasters? too many. i’m trying to do my part in the ways that i’m able to. i hope you’re also helping in whatever ways are sustainable to you. i hope we all find new ways to fight despair as the fall (take that as you will lol) sets in.
new in the shop
two bumper stickers: one features a grayscale illustration of elliott smith playing guitar with snoopy on his shoulder. hand-lettered text reads, “get in bestie! we’re listening to elliott smith.” the other sticker features an illustration of a lime green hearse driving away, white text on black background reads, “my other car is the iconic lime green hearse from the classic television series six feet under.”
i had a lot of fun making both of these, though they’re both very niche and i probably won’t sell many of them lol.
september snapshot
the punk rock flea market was great! it was our second time at friendship hall, setup was a breeze, and i really appreciate them for existing (and being maybe the only ADA accessible space in town we can afford to rent lol). planning stuff with naomi totally spoils me. we make a fantastic team.
i got a tattoo of a foxglove on my tummy, in an effort to like it more. i went to ziggy at hard easy tattoo in tacoma and they did an amazing job!
sept 10th was 2 months on T. i finally did my labs and made my first follow-up appointment.
the other night i had a small, masked karaoke gathering in my backyard and it made my heart happy (probably can’t say the same for my neighbors lol). send me your best karaoke songs! preferably from the 90s/early 2000s. i was reminded of this bizarre music video from the band lit, where they’re all tiny guys traversing pamela anderson’s body? and then she eats them at the end??? good for her lol.
forthcoming
i made a mini zine about changing my name. it will be available to patrons first, and then in my shop, once i muster the energy to actually do those things.
mark your calendars for november 10th if you’re a fan of FUN! i booked terror pigeon at the mortuary, this show is not to be missed! it’ll be masks required + provided, the mortuary is ADA and has a ramp, gotta figure out the bathroom accessibility situation and report back.
i’ve started outlining a new issue (possibly the final issue?) of wanderer.
no upcoming markets for meee. if you wanna beat the holiday shipping increase, be sure to place orders in my shop before october 6th.
clean air oly
there’s a new purifier in town (and a new hyperfixation for me lmao) and it’s so fucking cool. clean air kits luggable xxl. i assembled it myself (i am shockingly bad at assembly lol)! this purifier is a kind of a fancy CR box (a DIY air purifier where you duct tape some MERV13 filters to a box fan). instead of a box fan, it uses multiple computer fans. and instead of duct tape, you get a nice laser-cut wood frame that snaps together around two MERV13 air filters. it’s lightweight (10lbs vs the blast mini’s 61lbs), extremely quiet and energy efficient, has a handle for transport, and if something breaks, you can easily replace it.
tl;dr, it’s not a tank like the blast mini, but it’s gonna be great for places with lots of stairs, and for zine readings, poetry readings & events where background noise is an issue.
some songs
i’ve been obsessed with squitch’s album ~learn to be alone~ lately. i dig this new recording of an old favorite from palehound. this ix of swords song was an early september fixation after catching them live. some very different songs this week lol.
tiny victories
once a week, i get out my rollerblades and go skate with some friends. we talk and go in circles and it’s honestly been one of the biggest highlights of my year. standing plans are dope.
i finally got an ebike, excited to be more mobile.
i have a consultation with a new therapist coming up, here’s to hoping that works out.
sorry for the double newsletter month (that is, if i end up actually getting october’s newsletter out in october lol).
take care <3
i didn’t proof read this oops oh well :)
Oh my god the Elliott Smith bumper sticker is everything and I will be purchasing asap when my next paycheck comes in <3
Whoa! Those air purifiers using computer fans are so rad! Thanks for sharing.
